Lionel Binns
Lionel Binns is manager of the Life Sciences Program Office at Hewlett Packard’s High Performance Computing Division with responsibility for the worldwide leadership of HP’s activities in Life Sciences.A biologist by background, Lionel first became involved in scientific IT leading a team writing scientific software in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and then held a number of positions including consultancy for the pharmaceutical industry, sales, marketing and management jobs in Honeywell Information Systems and other computer companies.In 1987, Binns joined Digital Equipment Corporation, working in a variety of roles including European Pharmaceutical Practice Manager, Client Director for a major pharmaceuticals outsourcing project, European Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries Director, European Biosciences Manager and latterly, following Digital’s merger with Compaq, as Compaq’s worldwide Life and Materials Sciences Group manager before taking on his current role within HP after the merger between Compaq and HP.
