Careers at Current BioData

Current BioData is a rapidly expanding innovative start-up company making a major contribution to proteomic research and drug discovery. Our team of biochemists and molecular biologists help to gather and then critically assess the mass of information produced from this leading area of research, using their own scientific knowledge to assess the quality of the research being published. The most important and actionable new findings across the human proteome are then highlighted and expert comment sought and added, to ensure these can be easily accessed to support new therapeutic discoveries by the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Working with us provides an opportunity for you to continue to use and develop your existing scientific skills and knowledge, but away from the bench. The roles will also greatly expand your scientific awareness far beyond your own areas of expertise, and will enable you to work closely with many of the world’s leading academics and industry researchers. It is a rare opportunity to develop yourself as the company grows and embark on a rewarding science publishing career.

We offer competitive benefits and an extensive training programme reflecting our commitment to every individual within our team. If the idea of joining this exciting venture appeals to you, please explore our website to find out more about us.

Experiences of working at Current BioData

Lucy Pylypiw - Managing Assistant Editor

"After graduating with a first class undergraduate degree in biochemistry, I joined Current BioData as their first Editorial Assistant in July 2006. The position seemed an ideal opportunity to combine my love of science with a growing interest in publishing, and an ideal ‘foot-in-the-door’ to the industry from within a growing company. As part of a small and supportive team I rapidly took on new responsibilities, helping to recruit and train Editorial Coordinators within a new role as Assistant Editor. Still actively involved in recruiting, I am now also responsible for managing part of the editorial team as Managing Assistant Editor and find the role as rewarding as it is challenging.

I have the pleasure of working with a friendly and considerate team and look back with pride at my achievements to date – I have gained invaluable experience and very much look forward to being part of future developments."

Andrew Wingate - Protein Information Editor

"I have recently completed my PhD at the MRC Protein Phosphorylation Unit in Dundee. I joined Current BioData as a Protein Information Editor as I saw this as the perfect opportunity to get away from the lab bench but remain within the biological sciences field and break into the world of science publishing. The company is relatively small, yet part of the Science Navigation Group. This provides the benefit of working in a close knit team while secure in the knowledge that Current BioData has all the support and facilities you would expect of a large successful company. Since starting with Current BioData in June 2007, I have been involved in a wide range of activities such as overseeing the commissioning and peer-review process for articles published in the Targeted Proteins database, as well as writing Validation Tables and editorials on recent publications. Other key tasks have involved developing new sections of the database and ensuring accurate monitoring and updating of current sections. What I like most about working for Current BioData is the relaxed atmosphere in the office and that I can continue to work in the presence of people who find biological sciences interesting and enjoyable."
