What we do

Fostering pharmaceutical research productivity

Current BioData provides research scientists and business executives in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and related service industries with a range of products and services designed to increase research productivity and support R&D protfolio management. Built on a foundation of high quality, evaluated and highly focussed information covering current and potential protein targets, our services are delivered using methods that actively support knowledge sharing and timely decision making.

Current BioData has developed these services by combining the unique internal expertise of the founders of Swiss-Prot and the Investigational Drugs database (IDdb) – representing years of experience in biological data collection, integration and evaluation – with the external expertise of an extensive global network of scientific opinion leaders and subject specialists. Current BioData has brought these specialists together in a series of Virtual Academies to provide expert commentary and opinion on the most relevant and innovative findings derived from the vast quantity of information monitored, collected and mined by Current BioData’s in-house scientists at our information analysis centers.

To ensure that our clients get maximum value from the results of this unique process, we present them via products such as the Targeted Proteins database (TPdb) where information is methodically filtered and aligned in multiple scientific and commercial dimensions, including those of individual protein targets, biologcial systems, implicated diseases and the competitive and regulatory factors that drive commercial drug research and development. This enables TPdb users across multiple disciplines and roles to be made rapidly aware of novel research and other disclosures that are likely to impact their immediate areas of responsibility and – using TPdb’s in-built knowledge mining, sharing and evaluation tools – can assess their broader impact with networks of colleagues in their organization.

A new review journal, CBD Reviews journal, is also under development and will include all the major review articles available in TPdb, together with the very best reviews on selected key proteins and the very best conference reports, and will be fully indexed on PubMed.

Other Current BioData services

Current BioData also provides bespoke consultancy and other confidential services to our pharmaceutical clients, drawing on the resources of our in-house protein and drug information experts and, optionally, including the added expertise of those members of the Virtual Academies that have elected to provide consultancy services through Current BioData Ltd.

What our partner companies do

Current BioData works closely with the Geneva-based Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics to gain rapid access to information collated and expertly annotated for inclusion in their Swiss-Prot Protein Knowledgebase  and gratefully acknowledges their input and advice. Partner company GeneBio SA provides world-class proteomics software that bridges the gap between information gathering and knowledge generation.

Current BioData also co-operates closely with companies in the Science Navigation Group that provide complimentary services to the biomedical community. These include the first and largest Open Access Publisher, BioMedCentral Ltd, and the next-generation scientific literature current-awareness services: Faculty of 1000 Biology and Faculty of 1000 Medicine.
